The colonisation of screens into urbanised societies and now into natural environments via interpretation centres and portable devices has seen a transformation of the use of visual language. Although images play a vital role in shaping our cultural experiences, raising awareness of, and preserving and attracting visitors to our wilderness areas, many now prefer the high definition over-saturated and over-sharpened, virtual experience of nature ‘on demand’.
Hyper-real images of nature challenges our understanding of the world and can undermine the physical experience and sensations of ‘being there’. This body of work proposes the need to disconnect from the virtual world to maintain our social functioning and reconnect with the natural world.
Pigments prints - 4 large scale landscapes and 6 smaller rephotographed screen shots.
