New work in People Place exhibition

6/1/2016

I have two new photo-based artworks in a group exhibition at the Ipswich Community Gallery, curated by the Ipswich Art Gallery.

Something borrowed #1: Margaret Olley and Annamaria Mays Vermeer is the first in my Something borrowed still life series that combines objects from two different people. This series explores the relation between objects, landscape and memory. As memory can be contained in objects I use the photographic object together with still life arrangements to evoke common or shared memories in the viewer - of people, place or experience. This work brings together an element from the natural landscape and the objects of two artists from different demographics whose work is embedded in the domestic landscape  - Margaret Olley and Annamaria Mays Vermeer.

The work Annamaria Mays Vermeer is the first in a series of contemporary portraits that I intend to continue creating over the next year.

The exhibition includes 17 other artists from the Ipswich and is open until 22 January, 2016.

I've been selected to exhibit in the Local Now exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery in September alongside 7 other artists from the Ipswich, Somerset and Scenic Rim regions - Gary Abkin, Merton Chambers, Mieke Den Otter, Sharon Harper-Greentree, Alinta Krauth, Kate Roberts and Christopher Trotter.

Looking forward to completing a body of photographic work, Outlander, that I initiated in 2012. After focusing on other arts projects over the last few years I now am able to resolve this work and am pleased to have the opportunity to present it at the Ipswich Art Gallery.
